Emmerzael, Fred & Marilyn

Fred and Marilyn Emmerzael moved to Salmon Arm in 1992. They started their business called “Little Projects”, which has grown over the years to include more machines and bigger projects. Fred and Marilyn enjoy their life with their family here in the Shuswap and have made donations to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation over the past few years. “We feel our local hospital is a vital part of our community and therefore we feel a strong desire to support it. We hope that our support can make a difference in our community through giving to Shuswap Lake General Hospital through the Shuswap Hospital Foundation,” said Fred and Marilyn. Thank you to Fred and Marilyn Emmerzael. The Shuswap Hospital Foundation is extremely grateful for supporters such as them. This support will assist in providing the best of patient care and comfort in the health facilities of the Shuswap area.

Johnston, Lloyd & Joy
The Foundation was very saddened with the passing of Joy Johnston on August 19, 2013. Joy and her late husband Lloyd have been very generous supporters of the Foundation and we are proud to recognize them as Patrons of the Foundation. Joy was a Registered Nurse who served patients at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for many years and continued to do so after her retirement, serving as a volunteer greeter on a regular basis. She was very active with the Shuswap Health Care Auxiliary and contributed her time and energy without reservation in so many ways. Joy was so well known and loved, Her happy face and helpful attitude will be sorely missed at the greeter’s desk. Lloyd Johnston had a long and distinguished career in the RCMP from which he retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant and commanding officer of the Revelstoke detachment. Lloyd’s career took him to many postings around western Canada including time spent in the Salmon Arm detachment. After retirement from the RCMP he took a position with Federated Co-Op in Personnel at the Canoe mill site. During his time with Federated, Lloyd, always one to jump in to help, received severe burns when he and others attempted to assist victims of a propane explosion and fire from a truck/ vehicular accident on the highway just a short distance from the Canoe mill. Lloyd gained much recognition for his community work, especially his skill and wisdom as a hockey referee and an umpire in baseball. Lloyd was a member of Rotary and he and Joy were active in many Rotary projects to better the community. Never shirking a responsibility Lloyd served on Council for the District of Salmon Arm where he distinguished himself for his ability to discern what was important and to be a peace maker in Council and in the community.
