The generosity of our caring community assists with the purchase of much-needed equipment that will provide the highest level of patient care and comfort. Most recently, we were lucky enough to be able to purchase 2 new machines that will continue to improve that patient experience.
An Echocardiography machine is used for exams (Echo) it shows pictures of the heart’s overall function, plus the chambers, valves, walls and the surrounding blood vessels. This is a very important diagnostic imaging exam and the waitlist for an Echo exam at SLGH was one of the longest in the region so there was much need for a second machine. With addition of this second unit funded by the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, the wait times have been cut dramatically which has enabled SLGH to provide a timelier service and meet provincial benchmark priority wait times.
CO2 Insufflator- During a colonoscopy, the bowel is filled with gas so the lining can be examined for polyps or other abnormalities. CO2 reduces pain during and after colonoscopy in comparison to air, as 30 minutes after insufflation with CO2 the gas has disappeared, whereas patients with standard room air insufflation still have a significant distension of both small bowel and colon.
None of the work of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation would be possible without generous donors and sponsors. To all who have shown support and been involved in the Foundation’s future, thank you. There are many things we can all do with our time and money and it is a testament to the importance of the Foundation the many great people who have chosen to be involved.
