April 17, 1936 – March 29, 2019

It is with breaking hearts that we announce the passing of the gentle soul of our wife, mother and grandmother, Lenie Mannes.
Born in Rotterdam, Holland, she survived the War and immigrated to Canada three times:  the first time when she was 17, the second time five years later, and once more, the third and last time, to live for the rest of her life in her beloved land of mountains.
In 1985, after the death of her husband, Lenie was introduced to Auke (Gus) Mannes through his sister, Henja.  They held hands and never let go.  Soon after they married and started a hobby farm in Fort Langley, wrangling the heifers and corralling the chickens.  Lenie loved all animals and gave a home to many rescue dogs and cats from the SPCA over the years.
In 1992 Lenie and Gus bought an acreage and renovated their dream home on Grandview Bench, living there for 25 years until moving closer to Salmon Arm in 2017.
In between Lenie and Gus had many adventures, travelling across Canada twice by RV, the last time a three-month trip they thoroughly enjoyed, as well as trips to Alaska and Inuvik.  Both members of the Antique Car Club, they had lots of fun going to car meets and outings with the club.
Lenie leaves behind her loving husband of 34 years, Auke (Gus) Mannes, Sr., three daughters Lori Pickering, Cindy Rudolph and Leslie Bowling, stepchildren, Diana Mannes and Gus Mannes, Jr.,  and grandchildren Eric Bowling, Meagan Bowling, and Ashley Rosenberger, and great-grandson Rylan Bowling, step-grandchildren Christopher Mannes, Audrey Crouser, and step-grandchildren, Auke Crouser and Owain Crouser.
Lenie taught us about love, generosity, and acceptance.  She will live in our hearts forever.
